Mitooma Launches Nchwera Bridge Construction

Since 2021, people in Nkinga Parish in Mitooma subcounty and Busheregyenyi Parish in Bitereko subcounty have relied on a makeshift 2.5m-wide timber bridge after floodwaters destroyed the original structure. This makeshift crossing has provided the sole connection between schools, health clinics, and markets. It has also been connecting Ruhinda County to Ruhinda North County. The Ministry of Works and Transport awarded Armpass Technical Services Limited a contract for 8 billion Uganda Shillings to build a 25-meter Nchwera Bridge. On 21st November 2025, the construction of Ncwera to a permanent Bridge commenced and was launched by the Rt. Hon. Deputy Speaker. The event was attended by many dignitaries, including the representative of the Permanent Secretary – Ministry of Works and Transport, the District Woman Member of Parliament, the Resident District Commissioner, the District Chairperson, the Chief Administrative Officer, and NRM flag bearers, among others. During his remarks, a representative from the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Works and Transport states that "this modern steel composite bridge will restore safe, reliable access and connectivity to social services and transform daily lives for people in communities in and around Mitooma." He noted that it is being executed in accordance with pillar 2 of the Parish Development Model, which is infrastructure development and aims to provide economic services to promote parish-level economic growth. Thomas Tayebwa - Rt. Hon. Deputy Speaker, in his remarks, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the President of Uganda, for providing funds worth 8Bn to construct this Bridge. He thanked God for making it possible. He thanked the people of Mitooma District for the prayers towards the construction of that Bridge. He approved that Armpass Technical Services Limited is a good company and should work hand in hand with people in the communities of Mitooma. He suggested that the contractor consider employing people from the surrounding areas, particularly the youth, so that they might improve their economic situation. He also urged people of Mitooma to join hands and support President Museveni during the upcoming elections so that he can win with a higher percentage.
